Is it wrong? I think so. So why did so many people in the old testament have multiple wives? From what I remember, a relative of a deceased husband was supposed to marry his wife, even if he already had one. And then there is Kind David.....

It seems so obviously wrong now, but back then it seems so obviously unwrong. Confused

God designed marriage as a relationship between one man and one woman, as we can see in Genesis 2, at the ordination of marriage. However, we also see in the Old Testament men taking several wives, or many wives as is the case with Solomon. I believe this was something not supported by God, but he tolerated it for that time. I think it is similar in this way to divorce: God never desired divorce for his people, but he allowed them to divorce because of sin. In the New Testament the divorce laws seem to get much stricter; this is probably the same for polygamy.

I'd love to have more then one wife. It would be so fun. Why exactly did this so called 'law' begin?

Well, as far as today, Jesus has ONE bride. So, polygamy is not God's way. I could go on to prove God's way is one woman, one man, but I dont see the need.

But in the Old Testament, there are several exaples of single marriages. A few of those that married more than one woman are Jacob, (Abraham), David, and Solomon. David and Solomon had so many wives and concubines, which technically weren't wives, but were treated as such in every way, was because of worldy influence. Kings in non Jewish lands had many wives. Ther figured since they were ruling a country, they could manage many wives. This slowly influenced the Jews. Since God originally made many animals to be companion for Adam, God did not stop the practice because it was not violating God's laws. Solomon, however, fell to the evil in it. Solomon fell to and married foreign women, and they brought their false gods with them. This lead to Solomon's fall from God. This immorality is one reason God chose to encourage what God found man really needed. Single partner. With one partner, either the man will fall from God or the man will draw closer to God.

So, polygamy is one of those skeletons in the closet. It stems from God giving man many companions before God created Eve.

Wel, that is my view. i could be wrong. I can't say for certain.

Did Hawkeye just say He thought women are animals.
Does that mean Farmers should only have one pig or one chicken.
Or does He mean that women are animals therefore we should have a lot of them.
Hawkeye I just opened your can of worms.
