It was late. The sun had set, and the stars were shining. Zwall was cleaning off the dishes from his table. Suddenly, he heard something. "What was that?" Zwall wondered out loud. Again he heard what sounded like a person struggling. "Is someone there? Is that you?" Zwall asked curiously. No response. Suddenly, something hit his back door. "Hello?" Zwall yelled as he headed toward the back door. As Zwall neared the door, he heard what he sounded like a cat in pain. Zwall jumped, then cautiously peered out the window. Nothing outside. Silence. Zwall stood there for a few minutes watching out the window before finallyt heading to bed.
On the other side of town. Coralfish pulled the covers over her, settled into her bed and closed her eyes. Thump! Coralfish opened her eyes. Something was just on the other side of the wall. She heard muffled, indistinct sounds as some sort of activity went on mere feet away. Coralfish heard what sounded like Eiram screaming, struggling, but it was very muffled. Suddnely, a loud scratching sound broke the activity. The scratching was comming from the wall! Another scratch was heard. Then something hit the window. Coralfish sat up, tense. Suddenly the window broke, and a cat like cry peirced the night. Coralfish made a dash for the door and began franticly looking for something to protect herself with. "Hey! What are you doing!" A familiar voice yelled from outside. The scream peirced the night again. A moment later, the voice called in through the window. "Coralfish? Are you ok?" Coralfish cautiously peered around the door. It was Bernard Walton! "Hey! Im ok. Just a bit startled." The two talked for a few minutes before Coralfish called the police.
The police arrived surprisingly soon. The officer questioned Coralfish on what had happened and took a report. Coralfish was assured an officer would be stationed outside so she could get some sleep.
The next morning, Coralfish was awakened by a thump on her front door. Coralfish got up and cautiously peerd out the window. The officer was stationed out front, watching the paperboy ride by. Coralfish opened her door carefully. She grabbed her newspaper and looked at the headline. "Attacks come during night!" Coralfish read the article quickly. Seeing mention of the sound of someone struggling, Coralfish recalled something she forgot to tell police. She dashed out the door, straight for the police officer. "I just remembered something! It sounded like Eiram last night!"
Moments later, another police officer pulled up in front of Bernard's house. Bernard came out, bucket and squeegy in hand. "Mr Walton, I need to ask you a few questions." The officer said. Coralfish walked over to listen in. "Mr Walton, we got a report this morning of another attempt last night, and we need to verify some info with you." The officer explained. "Well, I should call bart and tell him I'll be late." Bernard said as he motioned for them to come inside.
After Bernard called Bart and assured him he would make up the loss, Bernard settled down to talk to the officer. "Bernard, what exactly did you see last night?" The officer asked. "Im not really sure who it was. I couldn't see them because it was so dark." Bernard responded. "I have a report that it sounded like Eiram was nearby." The officer said. Coralfish' heart skipped a beat. "Uhm, I think the same thing." Coralfish said confused. |

Does Eiram have a very distinct scream and struggle noise that everyone can identify her by these sounds?
And what's Bernard doing roaming around in the middle of the night? And who else heard Eiram scream? And... a cat!?
Oh, and the story was already in the local papers? If this happened in the middle of the night, how did the small local newspaper lead with it before some people were even awake? Maybe the New York Times has that kind of speed, but the Odyssey Times does not...
The police supposedly arrived "surprisingly soon." Now, if most of them had been asleep, only one or two on a beat, it would have taken longer than normal. But they got to the scene fast, indicating that they were already out... Were they at the scene of another such incident? One very nearby, where someone also heard one of those Eiram screams? |

| Where am I? I'm pretty sinister-seeming, aren't I? A villainess can like roses and carnations, you know! I have a cat... |

| Cool story, Hawkeye! I suspect Eiram, BTW, at this time. My 2nd suspect is Bennett Charles, though if it was real he would be my first! Have you written the whole story yet? |
