That statue came down. I think that many, many Iraqi's now really believe in the U.S. troops--that they are really concerned about helping Iraq find liberation and make a new government. It seems like the war is about over. But, maybe I shouldn't say that yet. Ari Fleicher said that the main word today is CAUTION. There are still pockets of resistence groups out and about Iraq. I just hope that everything will get better than normal for the Iraqi people. Now our troops are faced with the hard part. Rebuilding Iraq.

An Egyptian man being interviewed a short time ago told reporters that he was confused at the video feeds of Iraqis cheering the statue's fall and the coalition troops and wondering out loud how a people who voted 100% for Hussein earlier this year could now seem almost as if they didn't like him.

Do you think--? No, couldn't be... But, uh, did it ever occur to this guy that maybe the numbers were a little bit rigged? With all these Iraqi exiles and attempted exiles, surely he couldn't have received 100% of the vote, right? Oh, and only an estimated 300 voted anyway...

This poor guy, now faced with the realization that the whole thing was a sham... :)

Notice that the Iraqis are flying their OLD, pre-Ba'ath party flags? They know something that other Arab countries, Democrats and the BBC do not: this is a war not of occupation but of liberation.

Was it the guy that said, "they must be Iraqi rebels" or something amusing like that?

May have been.

Of course, I wonder how "Iraqi rebels" (80 percent of the country now that they're free to reveal it?) weren't a part of the 100% of the country that lent its enthusiastic support to Saddam? Wink

Sorry Im so late on this, but here I am...

Jared, that was good. The only problem with the court case is that US ex-POWs from the first Gulf War filed a case against Saddam for inhuman treatment. So, if we cant get Saddam in court for that, and the Germans cant get Saddam into court for their case, this war was the best option. :)

Skygazing: Yes, you, Coralfish, and everyone here, from the USA pays taxes. Everytime you purchase an item at the store, you pay anywhere from 3-10% sales tax, perhapse more.

Yes, I saw the statue fall. Very cool! I found it interesting how the statue fell as if bowing, then fell completely. It is symbolic of Saddams regime falling and most heeding the liberation, then the governemt falling the rest of teh way. God is good.

Just a quick note:
When it was mentioned today that the American POWs were found near Samarra, it made me think of the parable of the good Samaritan in the Bible.... kind of interesting.
