Certainly, there's a lot of bad connotations with the world "fundimentalism" and whether or not they're deserved is irrelevant. I won't use the word to describe myself, never. It's putting me in a box that I don't appreciate, just like the word "conservative", because on some issues I'm not particularly "conservative" in the strictest sense of the word.
On the other hand, I think the Bible (regardless of version) makes it quite clear that disputes about words are pointless wastes of time, and I think fighting with people over their perceptions of "fundimentalist" and "conservative" etc etc is also a war you won't win. Invent another term. At least then you get to explain it to them instead of just being submitted to a label right away.

As for the word conservative, I use it as a label for myself and certainly am fine with others referring to me as such. I am a conservative. What aspects of conservatism are problematic? Which do you disagree with?
Furthermore, fundamentalism is not a fight over a few words. Not all fundamentalists use the King James, by the way. Maybe they should, but I digress. But fundamentalism is subscribing to the basic tenants of faith. That is hardly a minor squabble or a waste of time. And by the way, when does the Bible ever say that any such disputes ARE a waste of time?

I guess I'm a little late... better late than never!
I use NIV. It's what most people in our church use, it's what both of my youth pastors currently use, and it's what my parents use. I never really could understand KJV, but haven't even looked at one since I was little... my two Bibles are both NIV. My mom despises the NLT, so I haven't gotten a good look at one of those.
But it doesn't matter to me what other people use. To each their own (or something like that...).
