Those kind of people drive me crazy...

You just know that when the U.S. and British forces DO find some chemical weapons, everyone will say they planted them.

These people don't think that no one can be that evil. They just think that no one who doesn't come from the United States or Britain can be.

I'm pretty anti-SUV.

Over here in seattle they are WAY to trendy for me, everyone has a SUV. Also, i think only 10% of the people that own a SUV auctally use it for towing or off roading or something. If you want to haul kids, get a mini-van. Who is going to auctally going to use a Cadilac Escilade for how a SUV was meant to be be used?? Even older more rugged looking SUVs like the ford bronco, why get 12mpg when you could get 30+ with a nice honda Accord? Thats a whole lot of cash difference when gas is up to 1.99 out here.

I have a friend that drives a 2002 VW Golf TDI, gets 45mpg!! I would love to drive one of these new Ford T-birds....they look very cool, or a new Mini/

Well, first of all, yes. SUVs use a lot more gas than compact cars... But, if someone wants to pay that, they can go ahead. Even though environmentalists would like it, we don't ration gas in this country!

SUVs get a lot better gas mileage than you give them credit for (I think our Jeep Grand Cherokee gets in the low 20s), but of course they aren't going to get superior mileage to a smaller vehicle.

But then again, that's not the only thing to take into consideration when choosing a vehicle. A few reasons to choose one:

- Seating. An SUV fits between 5-7 people comfortably. A car might fit 5 people, but it wouldn't exactly be comfortably. A mini-van would also work in this regard, I agree.

- Safety. SUVs are safer overall than any other type of vehicle on the road. Including minivans, by the way, even though you wouldn't generally think of them as a dangerous vehicle. (Actually, they aren't. SUVs are just even less dangerous.)

- Space. SUVs have a lot more storage space than a car, obviously, and this is very important to many people. This advantage is also found in a minivan, but generally, that storage is around the seats, especially back ones. They don't generally have large back cargo areas like SUVs do.

- Comfort. I know it's not the most important decision in buying a vehicle, but it is valid. SUV seating is far more comfortable than that of a minivan -- and the back windows actually open more than a crack. They also have more features, although many minivans now have absolutely crazy "features" like a built-in TV and VCR, etc. You won't usually find that in an SUV... and the additional features you do find are much more useful.

- Style. Yeah, I know. You're all going to yell at me for caring. Honestly, I don't make many decisions based on "style." But say you have a family, you need space. You have ONE vehicle. You can get a minivan or an SUV. Either works fine with the kids. But, think about the average person. Does the average man really want to drive a minivan to work, to client sites, etc.? :)

It comes down to personal choice. Maybe you like one of those low-to-the-ground little cars... maybe you like pickups...or vans. We can each side that individually when we pick out vehicles, I guess. I just get mad when people think that buying an SUV is an evil thing and should be forbidden. Or some other nonsense like that.

Thats true.... its all personal choice. I like cars that save me money, and I would enjoy sitting in for the 2 hours a day i'm driving to and from work.

Oh yes, I have always liked Jeep vehicles as they seem to be the best for camping and off-roading etc (which we do a lot of). However, I don`t think I will be purchasing one anytime soon for obvious reasons.....at least I think that they would be obvious! Wink

For the most part I agree. Some SUVs provide plenty of space for people and luggage or whatever. However, sometimes you encounter the problem when the very back row(if there is one) is practically on the floor and positioned very close to the middle row making seating rather uncomfortable and tight. There also presents a definite problem when you attempt to get out. While a minivan(or van) has an aisle down the middle and space on the sides for people to exit, it usually requires quite a bit of maneuvering of the seats to exit from an SUV.

Well, I think this one depends entirely upon the type of vehicle SUV or van. If you remove the back row in a van, you do have quite a large storage area for hauling things, while some SUVs do not even have a back row for you to remove. Of course if you have a Suburban for instance with all the seats and a minivan with all the seats, the Suburban will of course be much superior as far as space is concerned. I speak of the smaller "sportier" SUVs though....

Yep, I have to agree with you here Smile We have one of those ugly box-shaped minivans that is absolutely horrendous as far as appearance. And guess who gets the great honor of driving it everywhere? It truly is awful. So before you assume that I am an advocater of vans over SUVs please do not. I would pick an SUV over a van anyday(and yes some of it does have to do with appearance) as well as the fact that for my purposes it would be more practical as far as ground clearance etc. However I guess my whole point was that for a family with 5 or so children, I think the more practical option would be the van. Of course if you have 10 or so kids(which I could not personally imagine-but some of the families at our church do Wink ) it would be advisable to buy one of those horrendous 18-seater things....or charter a bus. No, I still stand pro-SUV. Buy an Escalade if you wish, it dosen`t bother me! And hey, we can always drill in Alaska!

I suppose I shall now be reprimanded by the environmentalists here, if there are any.....

I don't know where this fits in... probably the first one... but any Corvette, is a good Corvette. (I'll probably end up with an '87 red/gray Blazer.) I can't vote for the first category, however, because I think Porsches are the ugliest cars in the world, and I literally gag when I see one.

Really?

I don`t think that they look that awful. To each his own though, I guess. Wink Although, I would never consider buying a Porsche(is that the correct spelling?) I would like to take a ride in one sometime... just for fun.

Really. The classic Porsches are ok (definitely not on my top 50), but I really don't like the new ones. I guess it's the huge (bug-eye) headlight look I don't like.
