Regardless of your position on the Iraq issue, you NEED to hear this audio clip... a 6 minute segment of a radio show the other day. It's a quick download. And it's well worth any wait!

That's seattle's own Bryan Suites leading that interview. Bryan is my favorite talk show host in town, and just reccently moved to KVI the more conservative station. He is a very smart guy, but is also REALLY funny. I enjoy his show very much. He got his start in radio a number of years ago on LA's famous Kevin & Bean show.

He is headed off to war, as he is part of the Washington National Gaurd.

here is what the seattle PI reported last thursday about him:

When it comes to discussing the looming war with Iraq, KVI-AM (570) host Bryan Suits has had an advantage over most radio talkers -- he's actually been deployed before, for the Gulf War and Bosnia.

And now it's happening again.

Suits said his farewells to the radio audience, at least for now, last Friday, with fellow KVI hosts Kirby Wilbur and John Carlson bestowing going-away gifts of batteries and soy-sauce packets (all the better to make repeated meals-ready-to-eat more palatable).

Suits is a member of the Washington Army National Guard's 81st Separate Armor Brigade, which has sent out a notice that a mobilization is likely within days. Suits won't be joining the brigade right away. As a newly minted second lieutenant (his specialty is artillery forward observer), he'll be going for further training in Oklahoma, then joining his unit in August wherever it's deployed.

And where will that be? Suits has said on his program that while rumors are always rife, he advises "don't get a ZIP code tattoo until you get off the plane and ask a local 'where am I?' "

Still, Kuwait is a distinct possibility, "as likely as guarding Mount Rushmore."

Suits admits to some mixed feelings about the call-up. While he's long believed in service (he was a member of the Oregon Guard before transferring to Washington), he also sees this as a time when someone of his experience is most valuable on the air. He admits to being bemused not only by those talk hosts who discuss military matters without having been in uniform themselves but by the media's grasping at any expert to make up for its broad lack of knowledge (such as television networks lining up a retired admiral to "lecture me about a ground war in Afghanistan").

Suits says the activation probably would last for a year, after which he'll return to KVI. While he can't act as an official spokesman, he may keep a Weblog and phone in to the station.

KVI program director Paul Duckworth says David Gold will fill in for three or four weeks until a longer-term fill-in is chosen.

Well, if you'd listen to it, I guess you'd find out! :)

This is rather old... looks like you dug up an ancient post. :)

Anyway, it was (well, still is, actually) a call-in debate featuring a conservative radio host, an Iraqi who escaped to America and an lady who naively believes that she is for peace.

What!? Set foot (or keyboard) into one of those places? :)

Interesting... those that watch violence on TV repeatedly oppose war. A paradox of sorts. Or is it just that those who watch idiocy tend to side with the official party of idiocy, the Democratic party, and as loyal Democrats, they oppose war?

Or haven't they stopped watching wrestling long enough to even understand the circumstances? Smile

Well... they're mostly British, if that makes any difference...

I'm not sure what it is, because the WWE has actually been pretty pro-America, pro-War in all their recent broadcasts... dedicating the show to the troops, visiting the troops, opening the shows with "America the Beautiful" and the National Anthem, the wrestlers spontaniously dissing Saddam and thanking the troops in their promos... so it really doesn't make any sense...

Who could forget way back in Wrestlemania VII (I think) during the first Gulf War, when All-American Hulk Hogan took on the Iraqi Sgt. Slaughter and Iron Sheik!? Very Happy

That host that was supposed to go off to war ended up staying and is continuing his show here on 570 KVI from 6-9. Its a great show, he offers a whole lot of insight having served in a number of different recent conflicts. Its fun to hear him take on the other side.
