| Ferder- wrote: | I have some quesses for why the ep was so short
Nathan probably came up with an idea for an episode. After writing it he found that it was to long for a 1 parter, but he had enough for 1 and 2/3 parts. He decided to leave the more intersesting half for the second ep. He also decided that instead of writing more scenes with Agnes saying "I can't remember what I should be doing or what is soposed to happen today", he just threw in some never-before-heard clips from past eps. |
Ferder,
You're close! For a long time during the writing, this episode was a one parter. I think we went through 3 or 4 drafts of it that way, but it was always waaaay too long. We finally decided to expand it to a two parter rather than cut a bunch of stuff out. This was pretty late in the process and we never really figured out how to make Part 1 quite long enough, so we left it short. We decided that listeners might not mind a short episode if we added a "never before heard" scene from her history. Providentially, we found that bit from "Thank You, God." On a trivia note, I think that the album version of "The Pact" is now the shortest episode of AIO ever.

Ok. Here's my totally wild, wacky, and absurd idea of how this could end.
In Agnes' diary there was a letter for JO. It was returned unopened. Could this mean Jo died? My theory is that Agnes's best friend JO was a missionary, like I said maybe she died. Also why is she in connection with this place Agnes is going, Loon Lake. Probably this place had a special connection for them both. Maybe they had planned for Agnes and JO to meet there on August 2, when JO got home on furlough or something.
Or maybe JO didn't die maybe she was somewhere else or something and that's why the letter was returned. Maybe JO had a furlough every ten years then they couldn't meet when they had planned because of Tom's broken leg. Then, ten years later Tom took Agnes to Hillingdale, so that year didn't work for them to meet either.
Ok, so that's my scatterbrained theories. I'll probably find out that's no where close to being how the story goes, but... *shrugs*
I definetly agree, though. This was\is a GREAT show. *applause* |

On the missionary theory, which is definitely quite plausible due to the mention of a Kandy Mission in Sri Lanka: was Agnes a Christian at that time? She was invited to church by Jenny... so, was that a case of an already born-again believer having a church suggested to her or was it a case of a person being brought to church for the first time?
If the latter, it would be surprising for her to have a great friend who served as a missonary. If the former, then it's certainly possible. |

(Unless they keep replicas of her diaries in there or something...) So, she remembered by herself. That sounds like some progress for her, doesn't it? |
Well, many disease such as Alheizmer's (which, as far as I know Agnes doesn't have), cause people to loose short term memmory, but has not effect on long term memmory. Also, with training, intentional or not, I have found you can remembering things long term, while not neccessarily remembering them short term...
It is certainly possible, however, Agnes is in the early stages of Alheizmer's as well as having her mental condition... |

| I loved the ep. I thought it was neat getting to know a bit more about Agnus. I like how Mandy fits in a lot. I thought the ep was done really well. I can't wait for this Saturday's ep. |

| at the end when it has a little bit about the next ep, two girls are taling about finding a camp, and one character says "JO" and before that Agnes says, "Joey is my best friend" So I assume that this mystery is about her best friend Jo as a kid, and maybe something happened to Jo a long time ago (that's explained in a flashback when they were kids)and they finally find out what happened. Agnes must have known what happened before her illness, so why didn't she do anything about it? She did though, every ten years. Why? Was she visiting her friend? Was she visiting a grave? I think it is safe to conclude that this ep is a lot like "buried sin" (is that what it's called?) but obviously a lot better. |

Do you remember when Whit said, "Jack is running the shop and Joanne must be out of town?" Whit didn't sound like he knew where Joanne was. I think that Joanne Allan is Jo and is going away to commemorate whatever happened on August 2nd.
I also wonder if the paintings will tell them where Agnus has gone. One is of a train. She also painted them in two days like she was in a big hurry.
I kind of wondered why Tom didn't open the letter that said Return to Sender. Maybe the pictures were in the envelope. I wasn't sure if the pictures were laying loose in the box or if they were also in one of the diaries. |

I think Tom opened it.. they just cut away before we could find out what it said.
As for Jo being Joanne... an extremely intriguing thought. And Joanne WAS a missionary. Wow, I think you're on to something!
I talked to Nathan the other night and he told me a few things... it didn't mean much, really, but now that I think about it, what he said might strengthen the case for Joanne being one and the same as Jo.
Good thought! Now let's see if it's the RIGHT thought.. |

I'm saving my full review for part 2 but I just had to post and say WONDERFUL job Nathan!!! The best Odyssey mystery in a looooong time. oh wait, we really haven't had an Odyssey mystery for awhile. Seriously, it was great. I wish part 1 had been longer but I enjoyed hearing that lost scene.
Nathan, couple of questions. Are they adding those lost scenes to albums 1-15 when they put them on CDs? (Another example is "A Class Act", a lot of lost scenes...) And, is that "fun fact" thing going to be on the album version of "The Pact"? I was completely shocked when I got Countermoves and the fun fact from "Shining Armor, 2" was on it!!! I'm hoping it's starting a new trend.
About Joanne, highly unlikely. I think she would have said something to Tom earlier... Of course she may not have realized that Agnus' married a Riley. Hmmm. Very intriguing thought. It would be nice and Nathan does a wonderful job at putting in little things for fans so it could be... |
