as my political science prof said (tongue in cheek), "you don't get much experience in international relations being the governor of Texas."

I know you said this a long time ago, but I saw it again and decided to comment on it.

Well, you get more international relations experience as governor of Texas than, say, governor of Arkansas (the position Clinton held before election to the presidency). After all, you share a large border with another country in Texas and there are many border problems.

Besides, the Bush administration has more foreign policy experience than any other administration in recent memory.

True, Bush isn't a foreign policy expert, but then again, no president ever has been. But Bush has surrounded himself with those who are: Condaleeza Rice, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle and yes, even though I often oppose him, Colin Powell.

That's a better foreign policy team than has EVER been assembled by an administration. And it's a better quality one, too. Brent Scrowcroft (Bush 41 official), Madalyn Albright (Clinton) and Co. just can't compare.

And besides, it's a lot more interesting listening to Rummy (Don Rumsfeld) than it is listening to Henry Kissenger, if you know what I mean.

And even though this thread really has nothing to do with Rumsfeld, he is absolutely my favorite administration official, so let me talk about him for a while. He is GREAT when angry. He knows that he is surrounded by incompetant fools (aka the press corps). And while he won't come out and say that, he will come close. I remember during the early stages of the war on terror, when we attacked an Al Qaeda camp in a series of caves (this was pre-Tora Bora), a reporter (I think it was ABC's Terry Moran, but I can't be 100% sure) asked Rumsfeld something to the effect of, "How do we know that those Al Qaeda operatives are actually planning warfare in those caves?" To which Rumsfeld replied, "Well, they aren't baking cookies in there."

Or when recently, two days after being asked about our slow progress and whether it meant the Iraqis were winning, he was asked by the same reporter if our new progress would make us look like bullies and whether or not we should slow down and capture Iraq more slowly to be nice, Rumsfeld looked like he wasn't sure whether to yell at the man or laugh at him. Instead, he bit his tongue. Then, the reporter asked if Americans had cause to distrust our military because they were attacking so quickly and effectively. The Secretary's response came very close to saying that only an idiot would believe that.

But don't forget his logic. When asked what the purpose of dropping cluster bombs was and why we'd use them on the Taliban and Al Qaeda, he replied: "They are being dropped on the front-line troops of the Al-Quaeda and the Taliban, and their purpose is to kill those people." The reporter was appalled. Apparently, he thought bombs were used to bake cookies.

And of course, there's his "poetry." Last year, he was asked by one journalists whether or not we knew that we didn't know certain things. His reply?

"As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know."

But this has NOTHING to do with the topic at hand.
