PostPosted: Thu Mar 06, 2003 1:52 pm    Post subject: Presidential Press Conference Tonight!

President Bush has called a Press Conference for tonight at 8 PM EST. It will surely be on FOX News, CNN, MSNBC and C-SPAN and will quite possibly be on the traditional networks (CBS, NBC, ABC and FOX).

The administration is calling it an important press conference concerning the progress made in the war on terror and perhaps looking some at the situation in Iraq. Ari Fleitcher (White House Press Secretary) downplayed rumors that it could be an official declaration of war, but... that doesn't really mean much.

Among the rumors circulating:

-- President Bush will declare war on Iraq tonight (my personal guess is no... I think that will happen in a major speech from the Oval Office next week, not in a press conference from the East Room tonight, but we'll see)

-- President Bush will announce the capture or death of Osama bin Laden (my personal guess is no once again, as I believe bin Laden is long since dead... if that is not the case, however, the capture of the Al Qaeda number 3 man a few days ago and new intelligence data could have led to his capture... I don't think this is the case, but once again, we'll see)

-- President Bush will give Saddam a 2-5 day -- 72 hours has been floating around in political rumor circles -- ultimatum before war begins (I don't think this will happen either, as I think that the administration will want the final ultimatum to be in the war speech and as I said above, I don't expect a war declaration tonight)

-- President Bush will talk about Khalid Shaiek Mohammad (spelling for his name varies, by the way, which is one reason why many are just calling him KSM), the most recently captured top Al Qaeda operative, and discuss other recent developments, as well as continued insistence that action be taken in Iraq if the country does not completely and quickly disarm and Saddam rescind power (while I don't think it will happen exactly like this, I would consider this the most likely option... but who knows?)

No matter what it's about, know this: Bush rarely gives press conferences, so when he does, it should be considered important. Watch it! (If you don't have cable/satellite and the local networks aren't showing it -- or if you just don't have a TV at all -- you might want to try c-span.org ; you should be able to watch it over the net from there.)

I think he's going to say "Ha ha ha! I've fooled you all along!" and pull of a mask and reveal that he is really Osama bin Ladin.

Or he'll just give an update on the current situations, etc.

Hehe.

Umm, does this mean that it will replace a bunch of shows tonight like some his speeches do? Cause, it really sucks when he does. I mean, no one wants to see him star yacking about stuff I couldn't care less about!

Oh. So in other words, the President discussing major issues facing our country is not worth watching, but reality shows where people are stupid enough to marry people they meet during a show are worth following? Smile

I listened to the press conference on the radio. I thought that the President did a really wonderful job answering the press questions, as well as giving solid reason for his actions. I especially liked how he answered the question about all of the anti-war protesters and the countries that are objecting like France and Germany. All in all, it wasn`t any earth-shattering announcements or anything, but hopefully it cleared up many people's questions about why we are going to war, as well as some information regarding the situation concerning North Korea and Kim Jong Il.

I think that he did a great job last night also. I especially enjoyed where he said "One thing that's really great about our country is that there are thousands of people who pray for me who I'll never see and be able to thank. But it's a humbling experience to think that people I will never have met have lifted me and my family up in prayer. And for that I'm grateful. It's been a comforting feeling to know that is true." That was the best part of his speech Very Happy

I found the speech fascinating, actually. I ate dinner on my bed, thats how fascinating he was. ;)

Oh hush all you Canadians. I wouldn't give a *ahem* if your Prime Minister made a speech, so I can understand where you are coming from, but I'm not going to go around announcing that to you Canadians.
