Well....our current president is a good example. Um, others that come to mind that abused power: the famed Clinton administration, and there are many other world leaders past and present that have abused their power, often with with terrible outcomes. When I think of those who abused their power, Hitler, and Stalin etc..come to mind, however that is just an example. Right now we have Houssain over in Iraq who has contantly commited crimes against others and his own people. History is full of examples, one just has to take the time to read about them. I guess an assignment like you have is a prime opportunity to do just that! Wink

Read Machiavelli! He writes about all the proper ways to conquer countries and keep them under your grasp... using all sorts of harsh methods (and some less harsh ones).

For U.S. leaders who misused power, you might want to take a look at the traditional ones like Harding, Nixon and Clinton, but consider some others as well. How about Franklin Roosevelt?

The list of people across the world who have misused power is almost endless... currently, Saddam Hussein, Fidel Castro, Kim Jong Il and others come to mind, but if you go back a few years, you also have men like Pol Pot and Idi Amin to consider. There are always the perennial favorites, Hitler and Stalin, but perhaps they have been overused. I'd venture to say that a good deal of people can't say where Pol Pot or Idi Amin came from, but together, they killed as almost as many people as Hitler did.

In a far smaller area.

Everyone writes about the concentration camps of Germany ... so write about the killing fields of Cambodia.

As for good ways to use power, well, I'll leave you on your own on this one, as there are far too many people to choose from... including many great Americans.

Number one example? He's certainly on the list, but just because he is recent doesn't by any means mean that he's the most evil person around. I can think of quite a few people from the 1900s alone who I believe were more evil than Hitler.

Or at least, were better able to carry out that evil unopposed.

I'm not downplaying the evil things Hitler did... his atrocities are endless. But it seems that we know of Hitler because of the war, but everything else seems to pass us by. The Third Reich was by no means the only monstrous, oppressive and deadly regime of the 1900s.
