Actually Betsy Ross made the first US flag, not Martha Washington. Martha was married to George Washington, the first president of the United States, not George Washington Carver - the peanut guy.  |

Okay, if you want to be technical, the first recognizable stars and stripes American flag was made by a male Philadelphia school teacher. Betsy Ross received fame because of a story told of her, but she was far from the first.
And it could be argued that there were many American flags before the introduction of the stars and stripes... there was the "Don't Tread on Me" flag and other rattlesnake flags, the unionjack and stripes and dozens of others. |
