Here's the long and the short of it on those "unreleased"/"unaired" episodes.
Most of them were not recorded. "The Dangerous Haircut" wasn't recorded, I think mainly because it didn't quite fit in the schedule. It's still hanging around and it's a possibility for a future show. (It's quite funny, so I think it should be used.) "Turning Paige" was also not recorded, but is another possibility for a future show...perhaps in a re-worked form.
I believe "Fads?" was an early idea and I don't think it even made it to script stage.
"The Hoax's On You" joins the ranks of "One in Ten" and "Backwoods Jacobs" as a show recorded, but not aired. I wasn't around when they decided not to air this one, but I believe it was a show that the team felt didn't work as well in final form as it seemed to work in the script/idea.
By the way, scripts change and get dropped or moved all the time. "Plan B," "The American Revelation," "Shining Armor," "For Trying Out Loud," and "Best Laid Plans" are all examples of recent shows that were either scheduled or written long before they actually aired. |

I hadn't actually ever heard of "One in Ten" and Backwood's Jacobs" before. When were they recorded? What were they about? Were they actually ever finished (with sound effects, music, etc) or is it just the actors on tape? I guess I kind of find it a waste of money for them NOT to air episodes that were completed...
About "The Hoaxs on You", I think I probably already know the answer, but is there ANY chance that AIO would pair it with "The Telltale Cat", "Career Moves", or "Sticks and Stones" and release all four of them in an album? I know the answer is probably no but PLEASE say yes??!!!!?!??! |

| Hmm, you never know, maybe they'll include it as a bonus in a cd. I never heard Backwood's Jacob and One in Ten either? Or, did Mr. Hoobler slip up a secret that was supposed to happen? |

I've heard of those ones before... Backwoods Jacobs is actually listed as an aired episode in the Complete Guide, I think. Look under the list of episodes for the Jacobs family.
While I'm not so sure they should be released in an album, wouldn't these unaired episodes make GREAT features for whitsend.org? |

It wasn't a slip. I did a search on the HQ and apparentely those episodes are both listen in the Complete Guide... I agree that they would be great "featurettes" for the official site, assuming that they put the whole deal up instead of just like 2 mins. and then we could see if they were any good.
Nathan, The only reason I think "Hoax's on You" should be aired is because the other three splits WERE aired. I personally feel that every episode, good or bad, should be in an album. Besides, it most likely has Eugene/Harlow (Will Ryan) in it, since every other episode from that season did, it would've been great for them to just slip it in before the whole NovaCom thing came up... But it could still be sometime in the future...
BTW, I realize that all the episodes I mentioned at the beginning can't be put into albums intil Eugene comes back... But it would be nice to hear "from the horses mouth" that if he does, they will be in! I'm still praying! lol

| They should invent an album called "Sensored.' With all the episodes that weren't reliesed. I find that would work perfectly. Heh. |

| I've actually written to Focus and suggested that they do two albums of unreleased episodes. One with episodes that just "got lost" like "Thanksgiving at Home" and "One Bad Apple", and one with Harley episodes, like "Lights Out At Whits End" and the unedited episodes like "Rumor Has It". They could even put a parental warning on the Harley album. Focus wrote me back and said they really liked that idea and that it would be sent to the marketing team. Apparently there was some problem or another. Then at the chat with Paul McCusker, he said something about releasing one or two "lost episode" collections. So maybe one day... Hey! They could even throw those ones that never aired into them! lol |

| Yep, I wrote to them about that too. But...they never answered that specific question. |

To quote a James Bond title, "Never Say Never Again." However, I think it's pretty safe to say that "The Hoax's On You," "One in Ten," and "Backwoods Jacobs" will never been in albums or aired on the radio or released on the web.
I agree that all episodes AIRED should be in albums. However, I think we all have a couple episodes that we wish Odyssey would never have released at all, because (in a way) these episodes "tarnish" the name of Odyssey. (Most fans at this site have at least one episode with the initials "I.M." in mind.) For this reason, I'm glad that the Odyssey team still is willing to say, "You know, I don't think we should finish this show."
It's not to blame anyone behind the scenes, either. There are always ideas that seem to work better on paper than they do in finished form. (Those three unreleased episodes are good examples.) And when you get down to the final stages of production and realize that the show isn't working, you just have to admit it and move on.
Thankfully, this has only happened a few times in Odyssey history. It's too painful to happen more often!
Nathan
P. S. We've talked about an "unreleased" album several times over the years, though I'm not sure where it stands now. However, the episodes above will NOT be in this potential album. It would consist of shows aired, but not in albums. (Harley shows, 500, Adventure of the Adventure, etc.)
P. P. S. Eugene was not in any of those three episodes. |

Okay, well we'll take your word and just be thankful those three never made it to the air...
But about the other 5... Are there any plans to inlcude any of them in the upcoming vol 40 through, say 45? Does the rest of the team agree that every episode aired should be in an album?
Hey, and if you can't answer this, that's fine, but did I get it just about right on the whole Passages thing in the very first post? Is that originally why those episodes (BTV: Grace, Telltale Cat, etc) were left out of the album? |
