ok i know when i was on here last year there was a thread about what Bible you use. i know i said that i used the KJV and gave my reasons for it. in the past month my mom, sister and i have started going to a knew Church. the Church i origanaly went to was alot like a cult.
you had to listen to the misic they wanted you too, dress how they wanted and talk to whom they wanted. if you did'nt you got condemed for it.
the Church im going to now is a Church of God and they believe you can use whatever Bible you want. was i just "brainwahsed" about the Bible deal in my other church or is it wrong to get another version of the Bible? |

Let me ask you a question: Does the Bible tell you which Bible to use?
Rhetoric, of course. The Bible doesn't even really give hints about which Bible you use. It comes down, I think, to your reasoning. Accuracy is obviously important, if the word of God is infalible, you need the real words. But readability and accessability are also important, as you need to understand the message.

Perhaps more important than the question of Bible versions...
Which Church of God? There are actually three. One is affiliated with the Restoration Movement and the other two were created in a split some time ago, with one mainstream and the other generally regarded as a cult.
Do you know any more details about the denominational heritage of the chuch you are currently attending? |

The answer is yes, you were brainwashed, and no it is not wrong to get another version of the Bible. I can relate, as I grew up in a full-blown, non-Christian cult, myself.
While the KJV is pretty accurate, there are many mistakes in the translation of the KJV, and the main reason for this is that the translators did not have the best manuscripts available--some of the manuscripts they used for the NT were not even from the original Greek, but had been translated back into Greek from Latin.
There are other good, accurate translations out there such as the NASB (which is probably one of the most accurate word-for-word translations) and the NIV (which is more of a thought-for-thought translation).
But yes, you should beware of any group which says that you have to use a certain version of the Bible, or that has their own version of the Bible.

The only Bible I would steer clear from is the TNIV, which recently came out. It's 'politically correct' and we know what that means.

| I use NIV the KJ is way to hard to read. and besides allmost everyone I know uses NIV so it would be a pain to read along to a different translation. |

I think it means that it's all screwed up and isn't really a translation as much a nueterization. |
