OK.

1. Christian faith rests on the fact that Jesus died and rose from the dead. If we believe that he died for our sins, and we accept His free gift: we are saved. If the pope believed that, then he is in heaven.

The Pope taught a false gospel and believed that Mary was his savior. Look at this one quote from John Paul II, from a public prayer:

"Sustain us, O Virgin Mary, on our journey of faith and obtain for us the grace of eternal salvation."

What does the Bible itself say about those who teach a false gospel?

Quote:
"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel– 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!" (Galatians 1:6-9 NIV.)

The problem is that evangelicals no longer seem to take the Bible seriously enough. And I, like *daniel, am sick of it.

This verse could be interpreted very differently then it was meant to be. "Eternally Condemned" What is the exact deffinition to being 'eternally condenmed'.

Also a problem with using a verse like that is "that we have accepted". The Roman Catholic Church would use something like that - though slim it might be - to argue that it's not so much the power and authority of scripture as the acceptance of the Church proper that matters.

Well, in his first warning, Paul says "a gospel other than the one we preached to you," and then he spends the whole epistle reiterating what that Gospel is.

Broadcast, could you explain what you meant? What do you think it's saying?
