When is Aragorn/Strider first mentioned?

I seem to remember vauge references to him in The Sillmarillion, Not that many people here have probably read it. So that would tecnicly be the first mentioning right? Even though the book was published later.

Also does this triva all have to come from the LOTR books or can The Hobbit, The Sillmarillion and other books about Middle Earth be included?

The trivia is only for LOTR, so as not to confuse people who don't think to include the others.

All answers are in the chapters of LOTR, nothing is from any of the indexes or other books.

When he is first MENTIONED. That could mean when he first appears, but it could also mean when someone first mentions him. Whichever comes first.

i tried to read the silmarillion once but i failed, about 100 pages into it, as i did when i tried to read the book of lost tales! so....
