I agree with Jacob that this could be God punishing America for turnin from Him, however, I personally think it is just a mere accident. And Jared: Jacob was not saying those 7 are in hell, but more than 7 people will end up in hell from Christians turning from God and not witnessing.
The cause of this crash is so tracable, any human error even remotely possible will be highly scrutinized, and traced to the person(s) responsible. If the error was weather, such as wind, then it would have to be a very strong wind, and it would have affects elsewhere in the world.
God will not violate the laws of physics, and the laws of physics are very mechanical in such a situation. Also, God will not bring judgment on a person for a honest human error. |

| What do you think he thought of them? I agree with him. Sure, it's sad they died, but it does seem a little messed up that a whole nation greives for them, when far less people greive for those who might have been just as heroic. I don't think it's wrong that things are like that, just a little weird. |

Word.
But, really, this IS the topic about those people, and yes, they were great, brave people, so let's give them their due. I don't want this thread to just become arguing about the value of life or something. |

| Yeah, really. But, "Word."? My brother used to always say that, and he never told me what he meant. |

The events of today have been tragic, no doubt about it. But as Christians, we have access to God's peace even in the midst of sorrow and tough situations, whether it was an accident or an act of terrorism (which there is no indication of at this time).
"For God hath not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." -2 Timothy 1:7
"The Lord is on my side: I shall not fear; what can man do unto me?" -Psalm 118:6
"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" -Psalm 27:1
Please be in prayer for President Bush and the rest of our government, that the Lord would give them wisdom and strength as they make decisions to govern our country. |

It never hurts for a nation to grieve over its lost.
Of course we don't all grieve over every death. But when, for various causes, people who have made important advances or strove for a worthy cause or had a certain rank or status dies, we mourn.
We mourn when we hear of soliders dead in battles. We mourn when we hear of leaders dying, whether it ends in a crash, on a sickbed at the working of an assassin. We mourn the loss as a nation.
How can it possibly be wrong to do so?
Every human being is equally valued by God, but it would be naive to assert that there are no differences in men on earth. When people of great stature die, we are saddened. Expecially when those deaths happen in the doing of their duty.
I wouldn't be worried about being saddened about all of this... I'd worry about not being saddened because, well, lots of people die. Just because there are countless lives lost does not mean that the value of one has decreased. Go ahead and mourn.
ADDED LATER IN EDIT: Here's a must-read piece on the disaster by former Reagan and Bush 41 speechwriter and now Wall Street Journal opinion columnist Peggy Noonan: http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pnoonan/ |
