Ah, this brings to recallation the case of Mr. John Merrick. I shall indeed be praying for her, although I could not seem to find on the site a document that summarized exactly what her condition was, and what the immediate problem was,

Jared, or whoever feels so inclined, could you summarize the situation?

The immediate problem is that the judge said her feeding tube could be removed at noon today.

I think her parents are still trying different appeals and such.

Alas, it's been removed. Horrible.

I feel inclined.

Terry is, for medical purposes, a vegetable. Harsh, but true. Terry's little wretch of a husband wants her legally killed by getting the courts to grant him the right to remove her feeding tube. Her parents are obviously objecting.

Some are calling this a case about a 'person's right to die'. Hogwash. Terry's wishes as to being alive in this state are unknown. This is no better than the Nazi's treatment of mentally ill people. And it angers me.

Some activist judge (and I have no problem using that terminology) has granted Mr. Schiavo the 'right' to 'kill' his wife. *grumbles* President Bush and Congress have both taken a huge interest in this case and legislation is being debated. I'm unsure of the status of the case in the last few days though, but I had heard the tube had been given back to Terri.

And I'm ticked. Another great example of how much this country has no respect for human life. Would this ever be allowed to happen in a prison? Death by starvation/dehydration? Oh no, of course not. 8th amendment and all that. Great left side of the spectrum we have, eh?

I'm going to stop typing now as I'm getting angry and rather, um, careless with my words.

EDIT

I just saw on the news that the senate unanimously voted to 'extend' Terry's life. Senators have been quoted as saying there is no right more fundamental than the right to life. Remarkable.

Thanks Jonathon and Laura for summarizing it. I was in a huge rush when I posted the website, and didn't realize that it didn't explain everything.

According to what the site says, she still is not getting food or water.

Quote:
Terri's nutrition and hydration have now been withheld from her. It is unclear if the port that accommodates her feeding tube has been surgically removed as her family was ordered to leave her room.

For those interested in this case (as we all should be) Talk the Walk is discussing the case and the moral issues it brings up. The show ends at 6pm central time.

Seems that the President flew back from his vacation to sign a bill that allows for an appeal, good stuff. They really need a new judge on this case, the current one is stupid.
