| I always open dooors for girls, even if I don't know them. However, there is a flip side to the idea that the whole 'opening doors for girls' thing is dissapearing. Hardly any girls even look at guys (myself included) when guys hold doors. At least, where I live. Nobody says thank you! |

| That's weird, I thank bagger boys at the grocery store. Most people where I live are big on "excuse me" "thank you" and "sorry". |

| I agree. I suppose it's a trade off. The guy opens the door, and the girl says thank you. |

| I leave big tips for female waitresses at restaurants... does that count as chivalry? |

No, that would be called flirting. |

This is probably going to sound somewhat inane, but have you considered what mutations occur to bacteria when they are constantly assaulted with anti-bacterial products?
I have this thing about "super germs". |

*laughs heartily at the thread thus far*
I think chilvary is great. Not only does it make you think of others before yourself, it also makes people feel like gentlemen and ladies. (or should ).
Laying down one's coat and kissing the hand is a bit too far, in my opinion. And yes, it can get to be so much 'helping' that it becomes annoying.
As for something like opening car doors, I do not expect it all the time, but when my brothers are willing, I often forget and do it myself. My brother, "She doesn't wait for me!!"
I believe that true gentlemen and ladies are hard to find these days, but I don't think they are defined only by their chivalry, if you get what I mean. Though it is a wonderful thing, there has to be more than that.
*walks away and wonders who all she managed to confuse* |
