Ok, for fun:

Quote:
10.DRESSING UP

A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the garbage, answer the phone, read a book, and get the mail.

A man will dress up for weddings and funerals
I've often seen rather the opposite. And who in their right mind dresses up to answer the phone, water the plants, etc.? Wink.

Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.

Women somehow deteriorate during the night
So, in other words, men are ugly 24/7? Wink

Ah, children. A woman knows all about her children. She knows about dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favorite foods, secret fears and hopes and dreams.

A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house.

Believe it or not, many dads are very involved in the lives of their children.

Yeah, right!

Again, I ask: "Who in their right mind...?" ;)

I jest, of course. However, I do have my doubts about whether or not the fern cares if you are in your Sunday best or no. But then, perhaps it is a surprisingly discerning fern that is very opinionated on such matters.

Well, that actually doesn't bother me. It may well be true, and if so, it's heartening. It means I have lots of company. Misery, you know, loves company.

(No, I'm not even close to miserable, really.)

Yeah, right!

Are you joking or do you really believe that? I know there are plenty of "deadbeat dads," but there are quite a few "deadbeat moms," too, and just because the mother wins custody more often than not when such matters go before the courts does not necessarily mean that the father is much more likely to be the "deadbeat," as it were. (It may well be that dads are more likely to be so than moms; however, it does remain true that the courts have a certain bias toward placing a child with the mother that is not altogether justified in some cases. That, however, is a major digression.)

The point is, many fathers are very involved in the lives of their children. Now, the thought of ever having kids is a little horrifying to me, and is a major commitment that perhaps I don't even want to think about at the moment, but if I ever do have children, I do expect to be quite involved in their lives. I think that's a parental obligation. Now, I imagine that mothers and fathers will express that differently, and that's fine, and to be expected. But it is not true that fathers are universally uninvolved in their kids' lives, nor is such complete detachment at all acceptable.

(On a related matter, I think I'll go kill myself now. Before someone else does.)

Jared, the reason women are more involved is that they have a 9 month ahead start on us. Smile

I was going to make a comment about being humble and being planted firmly on solid ground when watering the plants.. But I resisted.

Oddly enough, such a comment that a "man is vaguely aware of short people living in the house" has annoyed me a bit. (Yes, I realize it is a joke!) However, sitting at church this morning I kept that comment in mind. One father was sitting with his 3 (Perhaps?) year-old son craddled in his arms -- The entire time that the church service occured. It was the most adorable sight and I couldn't help but think that men have a different way of showing their affection (For their children) than women. ;)

I'm appalled. I'm really speechless, I'm so angry at you.

That may be true, but nonetheless I've known many fathers who are just as excited and loving about their children. Frankly, (No this isn't a ramble about you, Gus. You could never do anything wrong in my eyes, anyway) it annoys me that people claim that men aren't as involved in their children's lives.

Perhaps in the non-christian world it is true.. I don't know, I know a lot of men who are very involved in their childrens lives but they are all christians/or profess Christ.

Well, I realize that there are men and women who aren't involved in their children's lives, on both sides of the fence. But I believe it the basic stereotype that makes annoyance rise, since not all men are just "dead-beat dads" and the same with mothers. Yes, this world isn't perfect, so we're not all going to have perfect parents, but I don't think a judgmental statement that all men are just run-away dads who only visit their children once every year is true and the stereotype bothers me, even when suggested in jest.

You all may continue to roll your eyes and shout "Burn CA at the stake!" since I'm ruining, what some might say, is a hilarious thread. Wink

In that case, I must have achieved the double ultimate. And on my inferior TI-83+ silver edition.

Ah dressing up. There is nothing that I find more HORRIBLE! This would, of course, explain why I have worn shorts and a t-shirt every day for the last five years (At some point during the day, I may have been forced to wear more formal attire, but I have always gotten out of it as quickly as possible and reverted to shorts).
