I overheard two colleauges debating this, and was wondering what your takes on it are. Smile

(I of course have my own opinion, but would like to hear yours first.)

I would have to go with belief slightly before repentance simply because without belief, why bother with repentance? If you don't believe there's a God at all (nonetheless that Jesus is our savior), then why repent at all? What's the point? It's just silliness.

Belief, genuince belief in Jesus as the Son of God (along with everything he said and did) needs to come first. But simply believing doesn't equal salvation. To be saved you must repent and put your trust in Him.

I would tend to agree with that. You beleive, and then of course repentance, you cannot be saved without either.

You have to believe that there is a God who is perfect. And you have to believe that you have sinned against Him. You have to believe he sent His son to take away your sins. Then comes repentance.

I would agree that belief comes first. As has been said, there's no point in repenting if you don't believe in God.

Belief is necessary, but cannot stand alone.

You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.

Agreed. What say you of repentance? Is it also necessary? I think so.

The Repent, in "Believe and Repent" does not mean we must repent after we commit every sin, or we are damned. The Repent required for Salvation literly means the act of us willingly handing our lives over to God, and turning from a lifestyle of unrestricted sin.

That's what I believe, at least. Anyone agree? Disagree? Smile
