Mr. Hawkeye, honorable justices, distinguished guests, citizens,
This country is founded on the rule of law. Our lives are bettered by it, we live because of it. The law of the land is a shining light of our society and its flame has kindled the fire of democracy in lands across the world. In our own country, we live with peace and prosperity because of the law. We live without fear because we trust it, we live honestly because we respect it.
It is for this reason that law must be maintained and enforced. A society where small misdeeds are ignored is a society slouching toward lawlessness and anarchy. As a town, Odyssey will take the initiative when it comes to enforcement of the law. We will make a community safe for our citizens - and fair in treatment of all.
I come to you today to enforce a law enacted before I was elected. In the splitting and allotting of land parcels to community members, local law prohibited the ownership of more than one property. To those who claim that Odyssey does not respect land ownership and capitalism, I would like to pause and explain briefly. This land, in the ward of the town and under her jurisdiction, can be sold or given by any method so determined by the leadership of said state. Odyssey is no more restricting land ownership than was the Federal government in its allotment of free land to citizens willing to take the government up on the challenge with the Homestead Act of the 1850s.
There are those who have exploited the system for personal gain and that will be stopped. Nevertheless, we are patient and understanding. We have given those who unwittingly violated the law a chance to rescind ownership of additional properties that they had laid claim to and requested that they make known to the town which property they wished to keep when additional lands were reclaimed by the state.
The interim mayor of Odyssey, my distinguished predecessor Hawkeye, headed this effort. Today, the rule of law will prevail.
To those who mistakenly claimed additional properties, I say: do not fear the government. The situation will be rectified and no questions will be asked. To those who exploited the system, I say: your deeds have been duly noted. If you did not concede ownership of additional said properties and lay final claim to a single land allotment, all claimed lands will be confiscated. You were given a chance; you were provided with ample time. The clock ticks no longer. Today, action will be taken.
Efforts will be made by this town government to quickly and quietly remove properties claimed in violation of legal rule and I want to thank the law-abiding citizens of this town who lend their support to this venture.
Thank you. |

Jared: Good speech!
All (but Jared): Did anyone notice he did not deny his claim to Andromeda? |

Okay, I'll deny it. When did I ever say that I wanted or was going to take Andromeda? I think that's owned by Samwise...
I only staked one claim: to the Odyssey Town Hall.
Maybe I said something in jest and can't remember it... I don't know. But Hawkeye, could you please inform me of why you think I own or wish to own Andromeda? |
