I would like to know more about this "Room With The Light Going On And Off".

Apparently, it's just called "The Lights Go On and Off" (it's been a while since I've seen anything about it), and a news item on it can be read here.

Succinctly put, the display is composed of an empty room, with a light, which (can you guess?) goes on and off. At specified intervals.

Naturally, it was considered a masterpiece. It's deep meaning inspired many, no doubt. And what was that meaning, the one which made it worth a rather hefty £20,000 (~$37,000) grand prize? I quote the "artist" himself: "I can't explain it. The lights go on and off."

I've had this happen before, too, but I can explain it: the bulb needs changed. And I didn't get twenty thousand pounds for that startling discovery.

You all lost me slightly. Is the post count going to continue to be disabled in the Imagination Station?
If it is, I, too, must disagree. If it's for lack of serious posts, then everything but AIO and IC should have post disabled (I can understand the Entrance having no post count, since most of these posts are 'Hi, welcome to the TH!')

If it doesn't matter, why do we even have post counts to begin with?

Protesting in pieces? Then our factions would be divided, and we could never gain power. And what is the wierd thingy at the end of your post? I've been seeing stuff like that everywhere, but don't know how to read it.

Now, you're all probably going to consider me a bit insane when I bring this up as a complete digression, but when I saw Jared write this (and knowing his impeccable grammatical abilities), it only sparked my curiosity.

...the bulb needs changed.

Now, my grammatical background has always dictated that a phrase such as this should always include "to be." So we'd have:

...the bulb needs to be changed.

Or remedying the situation with the addition of "-ing:"

...the bulb needs changing.

I only bring this up because it is becoming more and more common from what I'm seeing. Just the other day, the library had a sign saying that the books: "Need shelved and stacked." Is this a common or acceptable form of grammar or are we witnessing the death of the clause "to be" in favor of a new sort of slang?

I believe that it is a disgusting form of slang which needs to be stopped, before the English language is utterly ruined. ;-)

And no, I don't consider you insane for bringing this up. I cannot stand it either. Sadly, I have become so used to reading it that I didn't even notice it this time! ;)
