That would be quite a depressing movie, I wonder if they're sticking to the books all the way. |

| I saw a preview of A Series of Unfortunate Events when I went to see the Harry Potter movie. It did look like it would be a little depressing. Of course I have never read the books so I do not know if the movie follows them or not. |

I believe they are sticking to the books. Obviously, they'll be pared down for the purposes of moviemaking, but the themes and dark overtones should remain. I really like the dark comedic nature of the Lemony series. Book the 11th, The Grim Grotto, comes out in September.

| I'm really looking forward to the next book. Not so much the movie. I was until I saw the trailer. It looks like Jim Carry is going to make it too weird. |

it doesn't look as funny as Shark Tale 8)
i hear they play on making the rest of the narnia books into movies and that they'll film em at the same time...

They do plan on making all of the books into movies. Filming is already underway. However, they are not filming them all at the same time. The script for Prince Caspian has only been started in the last moth or so. I have heard rumors that the sets are being made out of more durable materials than those usually used for sets, thus suggesting that the movies will be made over a period of time. Aside from that, in the books, the children get older by a year or two, for the most part, in between adventures. They will probably let the actors age accordingly to maintain accuracy. |

It's not new. There's tons of old movies based on books (Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Sherlock Holmes, the Bible....)
But there definatly is a trend of fantasy movies based on books going on. |

Nothing really... at least nothing unusual. A good percentage of movies have been adapted from books since the beginning of cinema. I know there's a lot of movies that I didn't even know were based on books until I read the small print on the back of the DVD case...
However, I agree with Ferder... LOTR's success has indeed inspired a fantasy book movie trend. |
