I am thinking of starting a website of "Useless" Movie and Book Information. I would be frequently updating this site with the latest news on popular movies and authors (including LOTR, HP, Narnia, Lemony Snicket, Eoin Colfer. There will also be news on things that aren't book or movies such as LEGO and video games.
I am having trouble thinking of the best way to make this site. A important thing for me is that it must be easy enough to update very quicky.
After thinking it over i've decided to make the site a message-board (easy to add new news, and automatic layout, shows when there's new news). The trouble is I don't want people to think "oh this is a message board. I think I"ll join and post". I'll make it so people can't post, but I still want the site to be an actual message board. I want my site to be a message board disguised as a more normal style website. If anyone has any tips on how to do this or what message board to use just let me know.

I don't really have any suggestions...(my site's not really a message board...) but I wish you the best of times and hope that your site turns out really well. Surprised

(LEGOs are rather fun to talk about...)

How are you with installing cgi scripts? Or, alternatively, does the server you plan to use have php / mySQL support? In either case, I would strongly recommend the use of an article management system that would let you post and categorize things as easily as posting on a message board, but could be completely customized to any look and feel you wanted.

Try places like cgi-resources.com and hotscripts.com, among others, and look for categories like "News Posting" and "Content Management."

Thanks for that info Jared. What free webhosts have php or mySQL? I know that proboards and many others don't.

oh ya I forgot to mention that I'll also have AIO news on the site.

Proboards doesn't even offer hosting; just a free, but heavily ad-laden, message board. I've used the free hosting search engine freewebspace.net in the past when attempting to locate free hosts that meet specific site needs, and you may want to try that, but finding free space offering PHP and mySQL without major strings attached is going to be difficult. It's becoming harder and harder to even find a no-frills free host that's not entirely ruined by enormous ads and excessive restrictions.

Ok, I'll have a look there.
Jack, I don't know what the address will be yet, since I haven't picked a name for the site. But it will probably be in the form of
