Hmm, well, I'm not sure exactly where to start. Basicly we did a lot of PT and hiking. When we weren't busy doing that, we were cleaning for Saturday inspections (we passed 2 of 5 times, which I've heard was pretty good.) We also had daily inspections, which meant we had to have a perfectly ironed uniform, and a spotless jurisdiction or we would have a long thrashing (holding the roman chair till you no longer can, or knocking out several hundered pushups or flutter kicks) By the end of the thrashing, we ususally felt like we wanted to die...but I must admit, it did motivate us to try harder next time.

Our time was totally packed -- We talked while we ironed Chambrays or deroped BDUs, we never really had any free time except on Sunday afternoons. But even those were pretty full since we were required to spend most of it writing letters home or finishing up the passage we were suposed to memorize weekly.

Anyway, it was definetly a month and a half that I'll never forget. I'm not sure if I could say I enjoyed it or not...In a way it was enjoyable, but I guess I didn't really go there to enjoy it . There were definetly fun times scattered throughout it. But regardless of that, I'm definetly glad I went.

I learned things that I never would have learned otherwise. I learned that it doesn't matter if I can keep up with the next guy or not..It only matters that I'm giving it every bit of effort that I have..and then some. I learned that I could always push myself a little harder than I thought I could..That we're limited more by our mind than by our physical strength. Before I would push myself pretty hard..untill the pain convinced me to stop. But when I think of it now, there actually is not a place where we can no longer go any further. It will hurt..But we can always push our self one step further than we think we can. And if we can't do it, God can.

Anyway, I learned a lot - I think it was the best investment of time I could have made, and I'm really looking forward to going back this fall.

WHAT!? Of course that's not true. Rachal Blackgaard is my wife, and you are our son! What's the matter with you, boy?

Hehe, sorry, I got so used to using certian terms while there, I hardly think twice when using them now. BDUs are basicly the military's version of blue jeans..They're heavy, long, (in our case) navy blue pants which are basicly worn everywhere except during PT.

Chambrays are the uniform shirts which have name and rank patches.

As for the purpose of ALERT, the primary purpose is to train men in skills and character. I've heard ALERT reffered to as the "Christian" version of the military. Many men join the military because they don't have anything else to do, or they want the excitement and to be around others their own age, or they want to explore different careers without being tied down to a job. ALERT is basicly there to provide those same things without the humanistic teaching and combat. And many people actually go through the military also after finishing at ALERT. Also, it's there to provide disaster relief and support for the govornment when it needs it.
