??? The TH was "out of order" ???
*Thinks that statement indicates how often she's on here*
I am sort of joking. I knew it was down, but I really don't come here very much, so I wasn't affected by it.
I am noticing the chat isn't working, and since Polarhome keeps comming up with "page not available" or other error messages, I can't get to the chat. Is the chat still down or is it just this "lovely" library computer messing up on me? |

That chat was never down. It's been chugging along happily the whole time, and I believe (though I didn't actually try) that the Java chat client still worked (via the link, which was still displayed on the home page, despite the error message). And yes, I've noticed that Polarhome has been down (though I haven't checked since Sunday night). |

OK, then these downright EVIL computers hate me. I'm not abel to get onto AIM, MSN or any other chat client either.
I guess I wait for Polarhome, or just give up the prospect of chatting tonight. |

I wouldn't mind one, but at my present salary, even if it were to be tripled, I wouldn't have two pennies to rub together, nor even one, although you cannot rub one penny against itself and I'm not sure why anyone would derive any satisfaction from rubbing two one cent pieces together.
Anyway, I do think I should become a salaried man around here... Anyone want to broach the subject with Xhan? |

How to say this, but, um, I don't get paid enough to pay anyone else :)
BTW, Jared, I just became aware that the TH was down, today. What did you do to fix it? Or, should I say, what did our man Peterson do?

Thank you, Jared and Tim! (and Xhan, just for the record!) Believe me, it was shocking. Nay, I thought it was the end of the world. Oh, the delight when I logged on today, expecting the TH to be dead, and it had miraculously resurrected! |

Too bad. ;-)

I had Jared upload a small PHP script (of my own creation), which allowed me to have a low-level look at the database. I found that three of the indexes for the various data tables the board uses had been corrupted (those dealing with posts and search results), so I simply told MySQL to repair them. After that, everything worked fine. The corruption must have somehow occurred after the web host restored the backups following the initial crash, since it worked for a brief period after the server came back up.
And not long after it first came back up, I saw a certain Xhan listed on the "Who's Online" page, so I assumed you already knew it was broken (though at that point the home page still worked). |
