How so?
Simply being an RPG doesn't make something bad.
I can "Role Play" a basketball player in a basketball game. I can create a character, determine his abilities, shape, and size. I can put him through rigorous excersizing and training. I can have him live out a life on the basketball court. You could (almost) call that an RPG. Right? |
He's a witch! BURN HIM!!!!
Eh, anyway... I've tried to play some RPGs... but I was always too much of a goofball to get along with the others. Shocking, isn't it!?
I really don't think there is anything wrong with them, per se... but ya know, some are Satanic or whatever, so I would avoid those... and some people get into them WAAAAAAYY too much, and that's wrong. But like a Star Wars RPG or something, I don't see a problem with (although I find such things pretty boring). |

As I said, they run a fine line on being good.
Besides, they are pure fantasy, and don't help you develop anything except your imagination, so they don't really benefit you. |

Of course they don't.
Neither does going to movies, watching TV, reading entertainment fiction and playing card games. But RPGs, if done right, are can be entertaining and harmless. If you don't want to participate then just simply say "Bah" and move on. They may only develop ones imagination, but can still be entertaining, and a lot better for you than most of the TV that's out there.
All I'm really trying to say is don't generalize RPGs into a "bad" catagory, and don't dismiss them as being no good for you, as they are much better for you as entertainment than much of the entertainment out there. |

Well, I'll point out that RPGs also give you the chance to interact with other people, which can be a good thing... unlike television or whatever. |

David: Key words: If done right. The fine line. Exactly, TV is of little good today, and so are many tings (mostly) Americans do. We waste our time and have nothing to show for it. The USA's biggest production is couch potatoes. But that isn't counted in the GNP....
Top Crusaider: Lots of things allow people to interact, but yet we only grow farther apart. We have cellphones, telephones, message boards, IM, email, and a host of other technologies to allow us to communicate, but yet we only grow farther apart from each other. Now, admittedly, this is not always, but increasingly so. And yet again, I am also writing this to myself as much as anyone else.
One final thought on RPGs. They often start out as a game, but sometimes can become lifesyle. And in that lifestyle, you become who you are playing, a person dictated to you by others. And you loose yourself.
I know. My views are slowly diverging from 'minor' differing views to rather differing views. However, I am trying to base my views on The Truth of God and His Words, while not becomming a pharasee (if Im not already). Call it a seach for truth beyond what the world and those dearest to me call truth. Otherwise you run into people with a million questions and you get lost after the first few. Why do we think the way we do as far as right and wrong? What is the basis, and is the basis Biblical?

Again I repeat: This isn't a RPG.
You submit your CHARACTERS. They don't even have to resemble you. And you don't control your character. |
