|
Just so you know, I havn't heard any of the more recent eposodes. So just pretend that any eposode after...ummm...I'd say The American Revelation (I think that's what it was called) didn't happen when you read this fanfic, O.K.?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jason awoke with a start.
Tears blured his vision as he got to his feet. That same nightmare. Agian. Why couldn't he get rid of it? And why did the person he was with keep changing? His dad, Connie, even Nick Mulligan once. But tonight was diffrent. He didn't even know the person in this version, but he'd felt the same tremendous sence of responsiblity for them.
Jason didn't really want to go back to sleep, but he knew that he'd problly zonk out withen an hour if he stayed in bed. No, he had to get moving. Making his way to the kitchen, Jason had to force his mind not to replay the entire dream. In the kitchen, Jason grabed the milk from the refrideratior, syrup from the pantary, and both sugar and cinnimon from the cubboard.
As he began mixing them all into a glass, he felt himself relaxing already. After tossing it into the microwave for twenty seconds, he was ready to just sit down and think. Hopefully not about his nightmares. Jason fought the tears that still tried to force their way out from behind his eyes. It was always terrifying. Possiblly, it would be less so if he knew what the creature was...the problem is, nothing looked like what he'd seen of it!
At first glance, he'd thought it was a lion, but those things he clearly remembered digging into his chest at the end of each nightmare weren't lion claws. More like eagle tallons. And there really was no accounting for what he swore looked like wings on it's back.
It was just a dream. Jason assured himeslf. Then, with a smile, he said to himsef out loud "I've just gotta remember I'm not Jack Allen. My dreams don't mean anything." His voice was a whisper, but as it was the only sound, it seemed a lot louder then it was.
Jason sipped the warm, sweet bevrage in his hand, and felt his eyes getting heavy from the need to sleep almost instantly. For the first time since he'd woken up he took a moment to glance at a clock. It was Three thirty in the morning.
"Jason?" called a voice from the door. Jason looked up at his father, who began saying "Why are you up so..." then Whit spotted the glass and the mixture inside. Jason knew that his father knew all to well what his choice of midnight drink ment, and Whit quickly changed what he was about to say. "What's wrong?"
"Couldn't sleep." Jason responded quickly. Too quickly, he realised a moment later. No one, least of all his father, would buy that one. And one look from him had told him he was right. Jason took a deep breath, and confessed "I've been having this nightmare recently...I guess I just needed a little extra encouragement to make myself go back to bed."
Jason knew what was coming next, and his father's words only confermed he'd been right. "You wanna talk about it?"
Shaking his head, Jason said simplly "No, but thanks anyway dad."
"You know." Whit began, preventing the aquard silence that was sure to have followed if he hadn't spoken. "It's been a long time since I've had one of those. I think I'll make myself one too."
Jason couldn't help but laugh. He knew all to well that his dad had these every night when there was something on his mind, and, knowing his father, that had to have been more recently then he was letting on. Still, it felt good to know that his dad really wanted to stay up with him. Kinda reminded him of when he was a little kid, how Whit had sometimes let him stay up late so they could talk, useally over two of these exact same mixtures.
*************************************************************
Four an a half hours later, both Jason and Whit were at Whit's End. Whit behind the counter and Jason upstairs somewhere. Whit couldn't help but wonder what exactly had gotten into Jason lately. It might be those nightmares, but there was something else. The only thing was, Jason wouldn't talk about it.
Whit didn't have time to wonder about what was going on with his son for long, as Connie stormed into the building, more then a little upset. "Is Mitch here?" she said, right uppon coming in the door.
"Ummm, No." Whit responded. "Should he be?"
"Yes!" Connie pratically screached, then she stopped and said "Well...No...but he said he'd meet me this morning at the park entrance and he didn't show up! And my shift starts in..." Connie glanced at her watch and blushed "Uh...five minutes ago." Then, her voice growing shy, she said "Sorry I'm late."
Whit laughed. "That's alright. C'mon back here."
Connie quickly walked arround to behind the counter. Whit and Connie shared a quick hug before Whit said "I'll just be right upstairs until about Eleven, then I've gotta head over to Connilsville. Nick should be here about Three, and I'll be back at four."
Connie nodded quickly. "Got it. Ummm...could you remind me agian before you leave?"
Whit laughed. "Sure thing, Connie." he said, heading for the stairwell in the kitchen.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
O.K., that was kinda short...oh, and yes, Jason's nightmares will play a big role in the next chapter. I hope I made it clear that they don't really mean anything...it's just a plot device that will explane Jason's bizzare activities in the next couple chapters.

Good story! Very creative too, you're much better than most fanfiction.net writers.. cause lots of em just write and then get bored of the story and make it boring itself.
KEEP WRITING!!! |

Whit found Jason in the bibleroom, going over the list of programs the Immagionation Station had. He seemed more then a little focoused, as though there was an importance to his work at the moment. Whit had seen that look on his son's face all to often. Useally right before Jason did something stupid.
"Hey dad." Whit jumped. His son hadn't even looked up from the screan before him. He'd almost forgotten that Jason had an uncanney knack for knowing not only when a person had approached him, but what they were about to say as well. Demenstrating the second half of this knack, Jason countuned. "I just thought I'd get away from the shop for a little while...without really leaving. Besides, you've got a couple untested programs here and I thought I'd check them out."
"Well, I was planning on testing those out myself a little later." Whit commented.
Jason glanced up just long enough to say "Well, if you want to come along..."
"No, no, no." Whit said quickly "That's alright. Just...be careful. Some of those new programs are action-orented and..." Whit was about to countunue when he saw a fimmilar glint in his son's eyes. So that explaned it. Jason planed to push himself to the limits in there. Whit knew protesting would do no good, but his protective side won out. "Jason...the immagionation Station wasn't built for people to test themselves."
"Who said anything about testing myself?" Jason responded quickly. Too quickly, and both men knew that it was a dodging question. After a moment of pointed silence, Jason said "Alright...so maybe I am a little inclined to go for something crazy...but it's not like I can get hurt in there." Then, a silly grin forming on his face, he added "Besides, it's better then what I would do when I was twelve."
Whit groaned. "Too true." he responded. "If I never see you on a skateboard agian it'll be too soon!"
*************************************************************
Connie was surprised when Aubery walked in. "Hey Connie." she greated.
"Aubery!" Connie exclaimed. "What are you doing here? I thought you'd be in school."
Aubery shurgged. "My second-period classroom is in pretty bad shape after someone ran in with an exploding beaker from across the hall during first period. They're cleaning up, and they wanted the students that were suppose to be there out of school for the rest of the period."
"So your just here as a coustomer." Connie said brightly.
Aubery shook her head. "Try just to hang out. I don't have any money."
*************************************************************
Meanwhile, at the Odyseey bus station, a young man exited the station onto the street and began walking. It had been a long time since he'd been here. Too long, he realised. A lot must have happened to everyone. He wasn't even sure who lived here and who didn't anymore.
Everyone in odyssey had long since forgiven him, and he'd been able to start living a normal life. But something Whit had said still bothered him. It was something he needed to talk about. Although he didn't want to admit it, he wasn't really here to talk to Whit. He was here because he had friends here...and concidering what had happened to him in recent months he really needed to be arround some friends about now. |

I must say that this is an impressive story. [so far.] If it turns out good enough then you could stretch it out and make it longer and then send it as a book to Focus on the Family. I'm completely serious.

O.K., didn't do too good in hiding that certian "Young Man's" identity, did I? LOL. Oh well. I was rushed when I wrote the end of chapter 2. (You try finishing a chapter with only six minutes left on your computer time)
I should have Chapter 3 up sometime today...(as in, ither in five minutes or in two hours, depending on what my step-brother wants. O.K., I know that didn't make any sence)
Well...that's it for this post. Chapter 3 will be up soon! |
