As of right now, I'd really like to abolish them. Maybe I'm not seeing everything clearly right now and am not the most objective person on this issue, but I don't like how things have progressed.

During the first election, I counted many friends among Hawkeye's supporters. During this election, I still had some, but found more avoiding me. Can't be friendly with the enemy. I was made aware of the fact that some of my supporters were avoiding others with which they disagreed as well.

That's not the way it was meant to be. The events following this most recent election only serve to underscore that.

My opinion is that, as Carolita said, we should put an end to the position.

Perhaps I might seem pessimistic on this issue, but how will abolishing the mayoral position improve things? Certainly this type of competitiveness may dissappear for some time, but if it is not in this form, it will certainly return in another. Rather than walk away from this, I would feel that this needs to be addressed in some respect. And perhaps this will ultimately mean that the position will be removed, but on the other hand there could very possibly be a way to restore order without removing the mayoral position. How? I have no idea at present, but am giving it some thought, as it would seem a shame to foregoe this position as a result of these recent incidents.

After Robin Baggins' post on the fact almost no one posts in here anymore, after this, after my own thinking about this, and discussing it with Carolita, perhapse The Town of Odyssey has reached the end of its life as a good idea.

As with all things, there is a time to die. WOF died, (WOF 2 is, if people write in it, different) the Mole Boards died, and so on and so forth.

Perhapse the time has come.

What does everyone else think?

Perhaps I must agree with the above post, as although it would be interesting, I have no current desire to run for mayor. Wink

Alas, this is most likely an indicator that the Town of Odyssey has reached the end of it's usefulness (assuming it was at any point useful). And although it pains me as well, I can think of no current alternative that would, as it is, satisfy the majority.

I would have to agree as well seeing how many people are acting like the Democrats did after the 1999 election, and there is very little action that happens in here anyway.

It is true. A mayor for a town is pointless. What is a leader if there is no one to lead? What is the sun, when there is no sun to shine upon? What is a Town Villain, if there is no town to throw villainy upon...

Wait a minute! Does this mean I can't be Town Villain if we close this?? Can I be Forum Villain? Or can I just stay Town Villain? Please...I shouldn't loose the title...

But, if I return to the more important topic at hand, I do believe that we should close this down. It was a good idea. But our enthousiasm for it has fallen. The Town of Odyssey has Died. And we are doomed to die with it. We still have the "Ontopic" Section and the "Offtopic Section." It's surely enough.
We must bring the town to a sad end. That is my opinion.

Why wouldn't it be, Top? No one ever said they were going to close it, we just suggested it.
