The only thing that makes this talk frusterating, is that there is NO WAY to confine ANYONE. *sigh* |

Well I'd have to agree that, apart from our self proclaimed "Town Villain", crime seems to be at a minimum around here yet, not knowing what exactly it is that constitutes a crime, I will remain undecided as to the need for a prison.
Interesting idea though, I'll give that one credit.... |

If ex post facto laws weren't prohibited by the Constitution, I'd suggest that picking the name Hawkeye be made a crime.
As things stand, perhaps the use of such name could be criminalized? |

The services of the esteemed Google have provided a suitable answer, found here.
| Quote: | | Latin for "from a thing done afterward." Ex post facto is most typically used to refer to a law that applies retroactively, thereby criminalizing conduct that was legal when originally performed. Two clauses in the US Constitution prohibit ex post facto laws: Art 1, § 9 and Art. 1 § 10. |

You can't penalize someone for having done something that used to be legal. For example, if we made making long posts a crime, we couldn't punish Jared unless he kept doing it. You also might have been able to guess what it means by looking at Jared's phrase "ex post facto":
Post means "after." Everyone knows that. Facto looks like the word (:: gasp ::) fact. "post facto" = "after (the) fact"?
Just food for thought. |
