I believe that all ten commandments apply to us today.... so today we must honour the sabbath. However, some work is necessary on the Sabbath, like the work of doctors, police officers, fire fighters, and farmers. But working the till at Wal-mart, I believe, is wrong.
My mentor once told me that instead of focusing on what not to do on the Sabbath, we should focus on what we should be doing on the Sabbath.... and I believe that's very good advice

i like that. my mom works at the airlines, and since she's the newbie, she doesn't get to pick her days. lots of times she wasn't able to teach my sunday school class because of her job, and i've had some q's about that. my dad works at the jail week on, week off, everyother work week is night-shift. so i know he needs to stay at his job, but if either one of them could get off they would and they would go to church.

well, I think it's important to have a day of rest, if possible. Even some New Agey chiropractor said you should only excersize 6 days a week. As everything God tells us to do, a day of rest is important physically, mentally, and emotionally. However, if you are walking with God, I believe laws like this do need to be followed exactly. Isn't there a verse some where that says the law is our teacher, and then after a while we get above the law or something??

I agree with Rosie. I read about a family who came back from church... and most of them spent the day doing practically nothing. They just sat around, looked out windows, etc.

Exodus 20: 8~11
Quote:
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thouh, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maid servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabath day, and hallowed it.

I don't think you should work on the Sabbath- I thought the verse said it clearly enough though. Laughing
