Why aren't you allowed to pick your own clothes, Rachael? That's awful weird...I have to run everything past either my dad or mom, sometimes both, but at least they let me pick my own styles!
I'm really late getting in on this topic, but I just thought I'd say that I'm the type who loves wearing skirts/dresses because they make me feel more feminine. I go back and forth on whether they're what God wants me to be wearing exclusively, so this whole thread has been very interesting to me. At this point, my main motivation is that my dad has asked mom and I to wear them, and it's my responsibility to submit to that. Fortunately, obedience can be pleasant...in that I enjoy wearing them anyway.
I second what alwaysHis said to hawkeye about being open and honest. I too, have always had it told to me secondhand that there are guys out there who prefer dresses on women. Even brothers of most of my friends have made remarks to my brother that are in favor of jeans on women...and these are all relatively conservative guys! Thanks for sharing that hawkeye.
This whole authority thing is actually rather funny to listen to. |

| What about it? I wear my worn-out denim dress if I plan on getting dirty. It's not good for much else anyway. Like I said, I'm not jumping on this bandwagon that a girl is out of God's will if she's in a pair of pants...but I do know I'm sinning if I disobey or dishonor my father. At this point, he allows jeans on occasion: I wear mine if I'm going to be outdoors on a ladder or walking around a campfire or something. I'm not legalistic about the skirts thing...just about modesty in general. I think it's much more important to stay modest than to wear a skirt all the time. |

I admire that, in that with you, its not ABOUT the skirts! Its about the modesty you are trying to attain with them, and if they won't be modest in certain situations, you're flexible. With so many people, is ABOUT THE SKIRTS! |

Thanks. There are definitely people in all places on this issue. Glad I didn't alienate myself from both sides of the camp...or maybe I did. Come to think of it, the thread kind of went dead when I showed up...LOL. It's like I've told several people recently, I seem to have a gift for killing the conversation. |

eh, I think this conversation was dying before you jumped on. I wanted to let you know that I appluad you too, for obeying your parents. I guess I see to often teenagers rebelling and it upsets me.
I've been wearing skirts alot more, and cullotes too (although they are somewhat not cullotes, I made them by cutting pants to mid calf length, but they are still quite culottey looking ) I dunno, if I will ever be a "dresses only" gal. But I do know that I feel more lady like when I wear a dress, and you get lots of nice comments, especially from elder folks, when you wear a dress/skirt when you are outside of church Its kind of nice. |

Ok, I know this conversation has been debated back and forth... but you guys start the interesting conversations while I'm gone!
Ok, I've skimmed all the posts in this thread, and rather than reply to all of them, I'll just point out my views (which I realize have already been pointed out and debated!)
I am a skirts/dresses girl. I've worn pants only in estreemly rare situations which are totally impractical in a dress (i.e. Participating in "high jump" on Field Days to which dresses and skirts would be immodest.) Like another here, my parents do want me to dress feminely, and with regards to those around me. Note, I am not dressing just for myself. I am dressing for everyone I will meet and what I wear affects how they think of me.
Another point (which has been addressed) is that the way a girl dresses really does affect how a guy thinks. Believe me, I have 3 brothers and a father in my house, and often times I ask them what they think about what I'm wearing. I strongly commend Hawkeye on his statements. Is there any other guys on this board who wish to express how they feel about the subject?
I've heard of the argument "Well, the guys need to control their thoughts!" That is SO NOT true! Girls, the Bible commands us not to be "stumbling blocks" for other believers. If dressing in pants makes us that, then we ought to care enough about our brothers-in-Christ to help them guard their thoughts.
Ok, well, there is more to this...
BTW: I found these quotes. I know they aren't so relevant to what is discussed here, but it might get some thinking. Quotes for thought: Someone once said "The public attire of some women wouldn't make a pocket handkercheif for a self-respecting gentleman June bug!" Someone else said, "A century ago it took two sheep to clothe a woman. Today, a silk worm can do it on his day off!" |

So, guys don't need to control their thoughts? Well, thats a new one. Guys, go ahead! Let those lustful thoughts run wild! |

Of course guys need to control their thoughts. I'm sorry if that wasn't made clear. But, I don't think that girls can use that as a valid argument. We can't put all the pressure on the guys when it is literally thrown in their face. |
