| One of the authours went to court for some reason...very weird. I haven't read "Left Behind," and I'm keeping my distance from them. Stick to the Bible, it's good enough for me. |

I could be wrong on this, as I'm not all too familiar with all of these things...
But Mr. Cameron was the actor who played Cameron ("Buck") in the LB movies, right? I saw a portion of the first one and quickly realized that it was terrible... But I've digressed quickly, haven't I?
Anyway, what's he doing PREACHING? If he's a Christian, well, that's great. But as far as I know, at least, he's an actor, not an ordained preacher. It seems kind of strange that he'd be given a preaching spot on a Christian (at least, I assume... right?) TV network.
I think the lawsuit was filed by Tim LaHaye over the movie. He felt that the production company had not lived up to its contractual obligations and therefore took them to court over it. However, this raises some serious questions and one must wonder how the noted Bible scholar interprets the verses about not suing a brother at a court of law... |

Well, it WAS a horrible film, you can't blame the guy for being upset. Brings back fond memories of my article for the school newspaper (Should the Film "Left Behind" Have Been Left Behind the Theater in a Dumpster?)...
And, yeah, Kirk Cameron is a Christian... dunno about him preaching, though. |

| I thought the Left Behind series were bad, at the best. I also took a look at the one for kids- it was VERY bad, at the best. |

From the May 17th, 2003 issue of WORLD Magazine:
"Expressing concern that its Left Behind series is falling behind, Tyndale House announced recently a contract with Tekno Books to produce two spin-offs of the popular series. Dan Balow, director of business development at Tyndale, told Publishers Weekly: "It was necessary to build in more product releases to extend the life of the line." ... Tyndale hopes the more frequent release of these related titles, which will look similar to the original books and will include characters such as Nicholae [sic] Carpathia, will pump life into sales for the whole series.
"Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins will not write the new books, nor will their names appear on the covers. Mel Odom will write Apocalypse Dawn, the first installment in the military/thriller series, and Neesa Hart will write State Secrets, the first book in the political/thriller series. A third series featuring angels may emerge in 2004."
Profiteering indeed... |

| Well, now if they are good books, you have to (well, you don't HAVE to) admit that some good Christian military/political thrillers would be nice... |

You can hear Kirk Cameron at Oneplace.com, just so you know.
Did anyone notice that on the plane scene, John Hagee from John Hagee Ministries is on the plane? There's some other people if you look closely. The woman who plays the flight attendant is married to Kirk Cameron in real life. |

I'd like some good Christian military/political thrillers, but I'm not so excited about Left Behind spin-offs. I'd also rather have them based in more current times rather than in an end-of-the-world time period.
Military and political themes rarely show up in Christian books and I think that's unfortunate, as that type of thing makes great reading -- but sadly, with the current choices, not always acceptable reading.
One book with political AND military themes that I thoroughly enjoyed was "The Last Jihad." Solidly conservative and while not a Christian book per sae, written by an evangelical Christian that makes no effort to hide his beliefs in the book or in interviews. There are major Christian themes in the book... without being just an average book with a Christian moral or something.
Personally, it is my hope that not only is there an increase in the future of Christian books but that there are far more "regular" books written by Christians who aren't afraid to let their Christianity come through on the pages of their works. |

Ever read "The President"? It's been a while, but I think I recall it being a pretty good Christian political thriller.
Anyway, I hadn't thought of that... I AM sick of most Christian entertainment (movies, books) being set in the tribulation. It's interesting to guess, and see what authors think about the end times, but enough is enough.
On the other hand, I DO like the idea of other, different stories happening in the same continuum, with a few reoccuring characters, as an existing series I'm familiar with. For example I write (or have written, as some of my work has ended) three seperate series, which though they stand on their own, they intertwine to a degree, and I think people like the idea of a character from another story just popping up and doing something or another in another series... |

Top,
I've never read that book. Since "the" is a skipped-over word in most searches, "The President" has 9,640 books-only results at Amazon.com. Would you happen to know the author's name, a subtitle, the publisher... something to go on? |
