An interesting thought, but there are a few problems with it:

1. For security reasons, the President and Vice President are kept away from each other as much as possible and work from separate buildings. For a husband and wife, that would be far from the ideal situation.

2. The Vice President isn't just an advisor to the president. This individual is also the president of the Senate and an unofficial chair of cabinet meetings.

3. In most cases, the veep is expected to run for the presidency if the president under which that individual served has fulfilled the possible two terms.

And there are many more reasons, I'm sure.

Jared, so true. Again, I thought before I thought (if thats possible) :)

So lets just make it so that only married men can be elected into office. Only married Christian men. Like my future husband Laughing

K, I know its impossible to control something like that, but um, we can dream right?

oh, and I'm totally kidding about the future husband deal, my asperations being involved in politics to that extent are long gone. I'd rather live in my little country home somewhere in the mountians.

Canada had a woman Prime Minister once: Kim Cambell, between Mulroney and Chretien. She was a Progressive Conservative, and was only in power for a few months; squished between mulroney's retirement and Chretien's election in 1993. She didn't do much, but I doubt she would have been worse for Canada than Liberal Chretien. Other Canadian women have their sights on the head office in Canada, such as Sheila Copps, our current Heritage Minister. In the Liberal race for a new leader, she is up against a couple of guys who are finding a lot more support than she is, such as our future Prime Minister Paul Martin. And that's fine. She seems to be a pushy feminist, stating that one of her goals is to make the house of commons 50% female... I don't know how she could achieve that, but she said that was one of her goals. Sounds like a bad idea to me, her focus seems to be in the wrong spot.
