1. What is your gender? female
2. Would you personally get tattoos and/or any piercings? No. I tend to avoid unnecessary pain when possible.
3. Do you have a tatoo and/or piercing? no
4. Do you think that piercings and/or tattoos are a health risk? yes, though so is being born.
5. Do you think piercings and/or tattoos are aesthetically pleasing? (aesthtically as in it looks good)? earrings, yes, others--not really. Tattoos, no.
6. Is it acceptable for Christian to be piercing and/or tattooing their bodies? Yes, since it was done in Scripture and not condemned

Wow! I have not looked at this web site in about 9 months! I see that many people have given their views and arguements. I really appreciate that as they have all developed into an arguement about the Biblical Ethis of Body Modification...Yes, that is the 42 page paper that was the cause of this discussion. I must admit that it had a very weak arguement considering that there are seemingly conflicting arguements in the Bible.

So for the record, I compiled the statistics, wrote the paper, handed it it, and got an A+. Thanks for the help ya'll 8) Then I had taken the arguement that it is Biblical unethical for Christians to participate in body modification in our present culture for various reasons and I used many bible verses and examples to support the arguement. When writing the paper, i had no clue what i thought about Body modification...I only wrote what i knew I had to...to get a good mark.

After thinking about it without pressure of due dates and reading the Bible more, I have decided that there are many things in the bible that we have to take in context. I found Amos 8 the other day saying it was pagan for men to shave their heads...why is it acceptable for men to shave their heads in the culture now? It is because everything must be taken within a context. Shaving heads in the context of the now culture is not pagan in worshiping gods.

Tattooing perhaps is still a lil blurred, but perhaps we need to consider that it has different connotations in this culture than it did in the Bible...and perhaps body piercings also have a context. My family studies teacher (for whom i wrote the paper and is the most biblically steadfast man i know) said he would let his wife get a nose piercing because it was biblical (rebekah got one) but in the now culture, it is seen as something else than for beauty, so she would not get a nose peircing for that reason....

However, that is the end of that. Just for the record, despite the fact of writing that paper, I do not find it Biblically unethical for Christians to receive some tattoos and piercings if they are so inclined...perhaps their object and placing of them i would not personally do, but i am entitled to my personal preference, as are they.

Surprised been awesome reading all your responses and thoughts...i will have to admit i got a lil frustrated with some, but i wanted to hear them all the same. ciao!

peace and prayer

1. What is your gender?
Male

2. Would you personally get tattoos and/or any piercings?
Tattoos, yes. Piercings, no.

3. Do you have a tatoo and/or piercing?
Yes, I have 2 tattoos, one on each arm.

4. Do you think that piercings and/or tattoos are a health risk?
They can be, if not done properly. But, as compared to 10 or 15 years ago, the health risks have dropped significantly due to FDA regulations.

5. Do you think piercings and/or tattoos are aesthetically pleasing? (aesthtically as in it looks good)?
They can look good, it really depends on the design, placement, and size.

6. Is it acceptable for Christian to be piercing and/or tattooing their bodies?
I believe that, if done for the right reasons, tattoos are fine for Christians to get.

7. Why do you think people get piercings and/or tattoos?
Some people get tattoos when they are younger to rebel against their parents, and do the 'cool thing' that all their friends are doing. Others do it because they think it looks good and are into art.

I'm 19 and have gotten both of my tattoos within the last 2 months. I still live at home, and while my parents weren't exactly thrilled with me getting a tattoo, they told me that it was my decision and mine alone. I work at a Christian school (tutor middle and high school kids in Geometry, Algebra, Advanced Math, etc..), and when I am there, I make sure I wear shirts that cover up my tattoos because I want to set a good example for the kids.

Aren't showing off your tattoos a good example ? I mean, if its allright for older people to look at them , and they are just art.. wouldn't that make it okay ?

Well, the reason I cover them up is because I know that some of the kid's parents that I tutor believe that tattoos aren't acceptable for Christians. Therefore, I don't want these kids who look up at me as a role model to go against their parents wishes.

I have no problem with my tattoos at all. They aren't really all that large and are designs that come from my Welsh background. And tattoos are also a great means to witness to others who have tattoos and aren't Christians, yet can relate to me BECAUSE of my tattoos.
