Hiya, Dr. B! So, you made it back alive...glad t' hear that.
Eugene Blackgaard: I really don't think the ALERT guys are trained to actually 'take up arms', they're more trained for rescue work....(from what I understand anyway). ALERT means Air Land Emergency Resource Team. They do quite a bit of disaster relief and stuff.... right, Dr. Blackgaard? |

Yep. Actually, while I was there, some of the SRT (Service Responce Team) guys went down to help out with some flood damage in Southern Texas. One of their missions which recieved a little more publicity was the search and recovery of the shuttle Columbia -- they had a big hand in recovering shuttle remains, etc. And recieved some recognition from it.
A lot of people just driving by or who have heard a bit about ALERT seem to think it's some sort of Militia group, but actually, while ALERT men are trained in a very similar way to that of military, they don't learn much pertaining to combat or self deffence (with the exception of the law enforcement program)...So I don't think we would take up arms in the case of an invasion. Unfortunetly...I kind of wish I could learn the combat side, too. I have heard something about some ALERT officers wanting to have paintball battles so ALERT men would be more prepared for such an emergency, but since they were low ranking men, I doubt that it's going to happen. |
