Another topic that no one will reply to, but I figured I'd give it a shot. ;)
I saw where they elected the new pope, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany, when I got online this afternoon. Thus far, I've only read the above article and skimmed through another short article on another site, so I'm interested in hearing everyone's thoughts\comments and what they think this will mean for the Catholic Church. |

Hey, I reply to nearly everything
I just happened to be at lunch in front of a TV when Benedict made his first appearence. It's the first time I've ever seen cardinals move that fast. As for the man himself, I got the impression he was likely to win the election, and I've heard he's controversial, but well-known and liked. He's also conservative. That's all I know right now, so I can't really give an opinion on whether he'll be good to have in the papal office or not.

Seeing as how he's very theologically conservative and one of his main points is to keep the Catholic Church from being swayed by relativism, I must say I'm quite pleased with the cardinals' choice. (Significantly more pleased, I might add, than the guy from the lab upstairs who keeps wanting to borrow stuff every time I'm trying to check the news...)
However, because Benedict XIV is 78 years old already, even if he lives to be very old, he won't have a very long pontificate. Here's hoping and praying that he makes an impact for truth that will last longer than he will! |
